Klimeš L. & Rauch O. 1997. Druhové bohatství v rostlinných společenstvech ve Velké kotlině (Hrubý Jeseník) [Species richness in plant communities of the Velká Kotlina cirque (Hrubý Jeseník Mts.)]. Příroda, 10: 65-80.

The relationship between species richness of vascular plants and environmental characteristics was studied at 47 localities in the Velká Kotlina cirque in the Hrubý Jeseník Mts. These localities included nearly all vegetation types known from the area of the Velká Kotlina cirque. The number of species on individual localities differed by orders, for instance 2 to 30 were found in 1 m2 squares. Species-rich localities are very small. They were found on relatively dry rocky slopes where a higher concentration of calcium was detected. Species richness in the Velká Kotlina cirque increased significantly with soil pH and with concentration of calcium in the soil. In contrast, the effect of total carbon, total nitrogen and the ratio between these two on species richness was negative. These relationships were found for plots 10 x 10 cm in size, at least. Species richness on smaller plots was independent on any measured environmental characteristic.
